As we moved into the 20th Century, marketing became more sophisticated and with it, as we moved into the 60's, came reaction and state regulation concluding in 1968 with the enactment of the Interstate Land Sales Act with took effect in 1969 along with Truth in Lending and Regulation Z obviously generating a compelling need for communication, uniformly, standardization and reciprocity.
The first meeting of the National Land Council was held in Washington, D.C. in 1969. At that meeting, we heard about the new Interstate Land Sales Act, Regulation Z pertaining to Truth in Lending, actions of the Federal Trade Commission and matters involving the sale of subdivided lands.
The following years, emphasis was on uniformity and standardization. The National Land Council continues with our program of developing communication amongst state and federal agencies which regulate an industry which now consists of community developers of very substantial products including condominiums, time share offerings and membership campgrounds. We believe our past efforts have been worth while, not always successful, but we have served the need for a vehicle for the exchange of views with regard to the nature of regulation as well as the need.
